Route knowledge, preserved.
RouteLog.WiKi is a working wiki for USPS mail carriers. Experienced carriers document the hazards, CBUs, stops, and route quirks they have learned, so new carriers never start from zero.
Scope
A carrier-facing wiki to capture the institutional knowledge that usually lives only in the head of the carrier who runs a route. Covers stops, CBUs, hazards, gate codes, dog locations, and free-form route notes. Each route has its own wiki page with full revision history, same model as Wikipedia.
Logic
Built by a carrier, for carriers. The features we chose to include are the things a carrier actually looks up when running a route cold: where the CBU is, which house has the dog, which gate needs a code. The things we chose to leave out (corporate metrics, management dashboards, scorecards) are the things carriers do not care about and that managers can already see elsewhere.
Fragility
The site assumes carriers will contribute honestly. Spam and bad edits are not blocked at the schema level, they are handled by revision history: anyone can revert a page to any past version in one click. If the user base grows past the point where every contributor is known, this model will need to be revisited.
Learning
The first 21 signups happened in the first ten days, by word of mouth among carriers. That is a lot of trust from a group with every reason to be skeptical of new tools. The lesson: build for the operator, not the institution. The operator has strong opinions about what is useful, and rewards tools that respect those opinions.
